Stephen Mandiberg received his Ph.D in Communication from University of California, San Diego. As a scholar of media studies, he specializes on the intersections between digital video games and the global flow of media translation. His work has appeared in Fun For All, an edited volume on video game localization and accessibility, and in academic journals such as Journal of Visual Culture and Loading. In his current work, he examines digital video game industry processes of localization, which involve the translation and cultural adaptation of games for different language locales. A former Japan Foundation Fellow, he focuses on the Japan/United States translational nexus to argue that there are "responsible" practices of localization that are not always followed.
