Bio: 

Caleb Westby is an accomplished educator and musician with extensive teaching and performing experience across a variety of institutions and ensembles. Prior to leading the music technology area at UC Merced, Westby taught courses in music and culture at institutions such as Central Valley High School, Randall University, Reedley College, University of Oklahoma, and Northwestern University. As a performer, Westby is an active member of several musical ensembles in Merced, including G Street Revolution and Class Act, where he performs on a variety of reed instruments.

Westby's compositions have been featured nationally and internationally at conferences and festivals, including the International Computer Music Conference (ICMC), the New York City Electronic Music Festival (NYCEMF), the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States (SEAMUS), and CONVERGENCE in Leicester, UK. Most recently his works “Rhythm Changes You” and “Blues for Beth” have been featured in concert by the Merced College Jazz Band.

Westby’s research interests span diverse areas, such as music during the Cold War, sound in video games, and electro-acoustic composition, reflecting a deep engagement with both historical and contemporary aspects of music studies.
